Yesterday, at the awesome blog Avante Garde Parenting, I was featured as the parent of the week! This blog is a must for all parents who want to be good parents. She offers great tips, and my favorite: parenting quick challenges. Go check it out!
My husband and I left the children with my mother for a couple of days and flew off to Philadelphia. What a lovely little city! We had just one night and then the next day (yesterday) spent in meetings, but what a night! I love being in a city where we can walk to anywhere. We had a fantastic dinner at a little tapas place called Amada and then walked into a tiny bar where there was a jazz duo playing. You simply can't find such things where I live! We walked back to the hotel in the snow, which if you watched the news you know was really coming down by then! It was magical.
I feel a touch guilty for one thing: I didn't really miss my kids! Is that abnormal? Both my husband and I relished the peace and quiet, the uninterrupted romantic dinner and the full night of sleep (I didn't get out of bed for 8 hours in a row - though I did wake up at 2am wondering if I should be doing something!). I'm happy to be home and I got some amazing hugs this morning, but boy did I enjoy having two days and one night off!
How do you feel when you're away from your kids?
Thanks for the mention, but most importantly- good for you for taking some time off! You so deserve it and I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I think it's so important AND it makes you a better parent.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Philadelphia but it sounds delightful :)
I wanna fly off somewhere and do something romantic like that...without the kids for once...*sigh*

We all need a vacation to focus on ourselves once in a while and it definitely doesn't mean that we love our kids an ounce less if we enjoy the time away from them. I'm glad that you had such a nice time!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining us for Friendly Friday! Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your award. quite the honor, and thanks for letting me know about Avante Garde. Interesting sight, even if my child is now a teenager.
ReplyDeleteGetting away is always tricky, but I've been making it a priority. On the first day I feel such a relief because I'm not having to stay alert all the time. By day two, I'm relaxed. Then on that rare occasion when there's a day three, I begin to wonder what my daughter is doing. Day four, I REALLY wonder what she's doing, and by day 5, I'm ready to come home.
Typically though, I'm away for one evening with my hubby, and when that happens, I go on trust that all is well so I can just relax
I'm not even sure my first post went through. Ah, us newbies....
ReplyDeleteOK,as I said I'm new. It's someone else who is following me, and they joined your site. Anyway, I still love your blog and follow you. I'd love a follow back.
