Babysitting Nightmares

Well, it's Wednesday and that means it's time to link up with Mama Kat's Vlogging Workshop! This week I chose to talk about my worst babysitting job. I certainly hope you wouldn't do this to your babysitter... or your baby!

Remember to leave me a comment and tell me about yours!

  1. Yeah, that's horrible. I can't imagine leaving my baby that young with that issue with a teenager.

    Goodness.

  2. That is insane. I feel sorry for that baby with parents like that. I think if I had been you I would have been on the phone with MY mom the entire time.

    1. Funny that you mention it - I did spend some time on the phone with my mom! Nearly had her come over as we lived just down the street. Sort of wonder now how that baby turned out - she'd be in her early 20s now!!

  3. I would have completely freaked out. The sad part is that when I babysat, I only made $1 per hour (yes, you heard right) so 6 hours later of holding in the hernia, I would be $6 richer. Almost enough for a cup of coffee at Starbucks :D

    1. I think I was getting paid $3. A good rate in those days for one, but not enough for that baby!

  4. Just consider it advanced training for motherhood.

Actually, it's a bit amazing you decided to have kids after such an experience!

I'd have waited until a sick and injured baby was 7 weeks old, AT LEAST, before leaving it with a kid babysitter. But I'm so conservative.

Great stuff! Following you on Twitter now.

    1. It was training, for sure! I waited another 15 years before having my own and I think the earliest I ever left my kids with a sitter was around 3 months. That was probably my 3rd child. The first didn't have a sitter until she was around 2!!!

  5. Oh My Gosh, what a nightmare!! I had a babysit job when I was a teenager but thankfully no traumatic experiences like yours.
I really love your vlogs, it feels like I'm sitting across from you with a cup of coffee having a chat ;-)
I'm too scared and nervous to attempt a vlog so I really admire you.
Have a wonderful day over on your side of the world! xo

    1. Oh, Raquel! You have to try it! Just do a few for yourself to start with, then when you get your nerves out post the best one! Perhaps we should have a chat! We could do Skype or a Google Hangout.

  6. My worst experience was my first babysitting job at 13. 2 young boys that ran outside and when I went out to get them back in they ran in and locked me out!! Took me awhile to talk them into letting me in. Needless to say I did not babysit for them again either!!

  8. It's awful, but I think I feel more sorry for you than the baby!!! UGH I would still have nightmares if I were you.

    1. I'm sure the baby doesn't remember, but I'll never forget!

  9. That is crazy to leave your 6 week old baby with a hernia in the care of a 15 year old. I almost expected you to say the parents never came back. I think I would have called my mom to help. At least you can have a sense of humor about it.

  11. I would have been on the phone with my mom, for sure. I can't imagine leaving a baby that needed that kind of care with anyone not completely familiar with them and their needs. Glad you both made it through the experience.

  12. Oh geez, I just cringe thinking what I would do if I were put in that situation. I have some pretty unpleasant babysitting experiences with some preteens who were in a really rude-and-think-their-cool phase, but your experience takes the cake!

  13. Tamara and her sister babysat my child at about 2yrs old and let him put the hair blower down on the carpet and burn a hole.. So don't trust her with you child.. That was 24 years ago.. But who is counting...lol

    1. Hah! I was the little sister and totally not responsible for that! Jen was in charge! You look away for a second... sheesh! Kids are quick. Sorry about the carpet. ;)
